There is a growing list of people and sources that have contributed to the website you see before you. It is an honorable idea to recognize these sources. This site could not have been created without the skills and experience in the craft of website design of the people and organizations shown below. I am indebted - ongoing - to all that you have done.

New Website Template

Kudos to Charlie Hazlett for sending the basic template to me. He took the time and re-designed this website which was a great improvement over the sad site I had been using. Thanks, Charlie for moving us forward. Lots of changes have happened since then, but it all began with your due diligence. Please see Archive Press Releases dated May 3, 2009 (THNC Changes Website) and May 1, 2009 ("THNCer" Proposes Website Change).

w3schools.com

Throughout this website development project, my most important tutor has been all the various parts of w3schools.com. By doing Google searches I have found informative instructions for using and refining HTML, HTML5, XML, PHP, CSS, jQuery, and more. The challenge was always to find bite-sized chunks of code and instructions that served my immediate needs. Such a wonderful site - w3schools!

Contact Us -

On April 16, 2011, one of THNC's advisors suggested that some people may not be able to use "mailto:" for sending emails. The suggestion centered on using the same device as is used on Columbus Area Mensa's (CAM) current website. It's a great idea. Only problem - all of the needed code is not available on the CAM website; it is buried in jQuery routines or elsewhere. When I asked this advisor for more help, he admitted to being a user of the technique and not a master. Even with his zip file and all the code he uses, the problem remained. Finally - after a large amount of work and guessing - the problem was resolved on April 27.

Byte Order Marks (BOMs)

The problem involves the first three hexadecimal positions (in ASCII - EF BB BF) in website page files. To some browsers and applications, Byte Order Marks (BOMs) are not important. Life goes on with or without them. In other situations, BOMs cause big trouble. And Life became better when I stumbled onto PSPad. One of its features is a hexadecimal edit capability. When I saw the BOM characters in a file, I copied the file with "BOM" in its filename. Then I modified the original file by deleting the three BOM characters. So easy with PSPad; impossible with the character-based tools I had used before. Discovered PSPad on May 3, 2011. Sent an appreciative donation via PayPal on May 5.

HTML Color Codes

I discovered this website about May 1, 2011. The Color Chart and Color Picker features have been very helpful, especially when I needed to match existing colors on my website. The current website has been changed, but I really liked the older music background for their demo (Bryan Ingram - Ben's Song) ...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sUPNmHEZuo&feature=player_embedded

FreeFind -- search engine

No, it is not free but I chose it because of their advertised "data search" feature. Data search was designed for other purposes than what I needed; it could not break long pages into searchable sections. PicoSearch did the job nicely; FreeFind code was removed by May 12.

TJK Designs -- toggle technique

An older technique was very effective but caused lots of errors during validation sweeps. TJK Designs' was just as effective and was much cleaner. Unfortunately for toggling, my highest priority was the effective use of my search engine. Bye-bye toggling. Discovered TJK on May 10, 2011 and discarded it on May 16.

PicoSearch

This is the second search engine to be installed. Pico is capable of great versatility and allow me to separate long pages into searchable segments. This takes users directly to the place where their search terms are used instead of just to the webpage. The staff were very helpful and patient helping me to get the website set up for use. Pico is more expensive that FreeFind and worth it. Our Pico account began May 11, 2011 with meaningful results beginning on May 16.

HTML Color Selection

This w3schools webpage shows 147 colors, names, and codes that are supposedly recognized by all browsers. Found it on June 27, 2011.

New Menu -- MyGosuMenu

You don't appreciate how complicated something is until you try to install it -- even if all the parts are there in front of you. Wow! Finally fully installed and working on August 1, 2011.
