Computer Systems and Website Planning
Planning -- Last Section: A - PURPOSE & TOC | Next Section: B1 - SITE SCHEDULEB. Overview
( 1-22-2012 ) "How to make it cool?" When the creative team for the newest STAR TREK, as led by J.J. Abrams, considered what was necessary to make the new movie successful, this was the single, most important question... "How to make it cool?" The challenge, then, for all of us is "How to make THNC's new website cool?"
( 1-22-2012 ) There will be other challenges. Consider rewatching "The Social Network" (Mark Zuckerberg and the social-networking website Facebook). If we make THNC cool and young people tune-in, will they tune-out as they get older?
At the present time, THNC is an unfunded, 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. It is guided by a small board of directors and an advisory group. THNC has a comprehensive business plan and several other copyrighted documents. We are seeking operating capital grants to begin working the idea. This section describes the environment that THNC hopes to create.
- What will THNC offer to the public? (see section C)
- THNC offers nine types of membership in three categories. We hope to become an entrepreneurial nonprofit, asking our members (see section D) to pay for the benefits they receive in a pay-as-you-go environment.
- THNC will create an easily accessible source of help and information about everything having to do with home networks, home automation, smart homes, computer based intelligence (artificial intelligence), and more than 100+ industries that support home networking.
- Members will receive truthful information or advice from THNC. They will have the confidence of knowing that THNC offers to them verifiable truth. THNC will help to span the "digital divide" for people that need help living with joy in an increasingly technological age.
- Where does information come from?
- THNC's website will be tied directly with THNC's database (see section G (Systems) and section H (Data Management)). As new information is edited into the database, members will have access to it almost immediately. This same database will also be used by employees to create Educational Presentations, books, and other services that members can use to increase their level of knowledge about various aspects of home networking.
- THNC's research database and database management system will be our most valuable digital assets (see section H). THNC will need to use the best, most effective security (see section I) to protect these assets. There are so many ways that hackers / crackers could destroy our work and our credibility. When we are violated, we need to be able to intelligently recover from such events.
- How will THNC accomplish its work?
- THNC employees (see section E) will gather information and evaluate it with respect to THNC's Ethical Standard, a comprehensive document intended to set a standard for everything THNC does.
- There will be a small headquarters for THNC administration, but the dream is to employ people all across America. We will use an Internet-based (cloud?) capability that ties all workers together and provides access to members.
- When members access our website (http://www.thnc.org -- see section F), they will have full access to information. When members call, THNC technicians they speak with may be anywhere in the country. Digital telephone and computer database will somehow be working together to provide seamless levels of service.
- THNC employees will use a "THNC-station" (see section L). This versatile computer workstation will allow each worker to efficiently accomplish several types of work, almost simultaneously. Instead of using separate groups of people for each function at THNC, we intend to put them together. This way, members will be speaking with the same people that are building the information database, writing Educational Presentations and books, or many other types of work.
- ( 1-22-2012 ) At THNC, we will use Quality-Empowerment. Each employee will be part of a Zapp Team which will implement within itself this form of organizational leadership. Our purpose is to create the best possible work environment for creative and responsible people. See header tabs About THNC, Quality Management, Zapp Empowerment, and Quality Empowerment.
- What else will THNC do?
- If indeed cloud computing is the key (see section J), we need to know a lot more about it, especially its strengths and its limitations.
- THNC will also use a number of important software applications (see section K). Some will be office-based (administration, personnel, payroll, etc.), others will be for service and product creation and revising (publishing, video production, graphics preparation, etc.).
- THNC may make arrangements with libraries, colleges, veteran training centers, and other facilities (see section M) where the public will have free access to a subset of THNC services.
- Our business philosophy (see section N) involves trying to do our work as well as possible and to create a most excellent resource for everyone that needs help with home networking.
- THNC about five years from now
There is always the possibility that THNC will fail to become anything, that employees will fail to apply and members will not be interested in THNC's efforts to make technology easier to use in the home.
There is also the possibility that THNC will grow gradually and steadily, developing its database over many specialty industries. Members will join in ever larger numbers. THNC will move into larger offices to make room for a growing number of employees while also adding employees at increasingly further distances from Columbus, all of whom are creating and updating an ever-rapidly expanding array of products and services.
Another possibility is that THNC will be well on its way toward hiring 1,000 people who will work from their homes, satellite offices all across America, and our headquarters in the central Ohio area. These associates will use broadband computer, telephone networks, and the cloud to speak with members -- also anywhere in our country (and the world) -- answering their questions about more than 100 industries involved with home networks that THNC has verified information about.
Here are other possibilities. Existing business regulations hamper businesses with 50 or more employees. Is it practical for THNC to subdivide itself into a series of small "sub-companies", each having fewer than 50 employees? THNC will encourage employees to organize work projects and fuction as Zapp Teams (see Zapp! The Lightning of Empowerment by William C. Byham, Ph.D., "Section 6. Joe Mode's Notebook - Part Three - Super-Charged Zapp!"). Is it practical for each such sub-company to have a unique role and identity, have fewer than 50 employees, be allowed to form whatever number of Zapp Teams are suitable to accomplish its role, and operate autonomously as a separate company?
THNC will locate foundations that encourage THNC to grow and flourish. Such support will enable the beginnings of branch subsidiaries that will provide greater depth of services to its members. THNC will become increasingly self-sufficient as an entrepreneurial nonprofit using its "pay as we go" philosophy.
Membership will exceed 500,000 members in all categories. Planning will have begun for local centers in the largest areas of member concentration. THNC will use its proficiency among English-speakers to expand its products and services in five more languages, bringing its services to even more people and nations.
THNC's member organization will offer exciting conventions to members and the general public. Manufacturers and service providers will come together to share the very latest in 100+ industries that make home networking what it is today. Seminars, EPs that qualify members for the Test Equipment Rental Service, and many other opportunities for participation await everyone.
THNC technicians and scientists will be working with top-flight inventors and manufacturers to build ethically responsible networks and components using the latest technology and computer-based intelligence (CBI) or artificial intelligence (AI).
Members will become representative directors through regularly-held elections. These regular members will work side-by-side with regular directors to build an even better THNC, bringing joy into the lives of millions that rely on the many technologies that home networking touches.
