Computer Systems and Website Planning
Planning -- Last Section: L - THNC-STATION | Next Section: N - PHILOSOPHYM. Public Service Opportunities
THNC may extend its sphere of influence, service, and public awareness by offering a subset of full member services to organizations already involved with public service, job training, or education.
- Specifications for Terminals
- Approach libraries, job and family services centers, and veterans' centers; submit written proposals for THNC usage on their public terminals;
- Consider other institutions dedicated to long-term learning, skills retraining, and situations not addressed by these institutions; these may include vocational schools and Do-It-Yourselfer stores.
- Use their equipment; it is their responsibility to provide a terminal on which to access thnc.org;
- Restrict access to member services; free services at public terminals can be targets for those who intentionally or accidentally abuse such facilities;
- Sensible Limitations on Terminals
- Make a limited subset of member services available at each location, possibly applying different subsets for different situations;
- Compliance with the standards of the host organization;
- Provide open access (without member ID and password and without member dues) during business hours on one or more terminals;
- Special IDs (no passwords) would be assigned for such locations; this service would be similar to that anticipated for kiosks in THNC's local centers of the future;
- Normal restrictions could be waived or the software that assigns terminals to users could also assign access privileges to thnc.org for the allowed duration of use at that terminal;
- Purchases from THNC's retail store could only be done using a person's own credit card, and the shipping address cannot be the location of the terminal.
